NAESP ’10 Conference/Houston, Texas

Hello and happy spring at last!

I am heading for Houston to speak at the National Association of Elementary School Principals. My session is entitled, Catching Falling Readers & Writers: What Administrators Need to Know. It’s my hope that attendees will leave with a few new tools in their literacy toolbox so they will know what to look for when supporting teachers in their small and whole group literacy lessons. I want Principals to really understand what a ‘falling reader’ looks like and the challenges that exist for teachers on a daily basis. Brain surgery is not easy!! We teachers do it every day!! I also want them to come away with a greater awareness of the importance of making the right book choices and using effective verbal prompts for helping falling kids move forward in new ways. So….let’s catch some falling readers in the lone state!!
